June 2021:<\/strong> Ok, Oslo might be the capital of Norway, but Trondheim<\/a> is its historical and religious centre. In fact, Trondheim has been the capital a few times in history, when various kings had their seat here. I have created two VoiceMap guided walking tours in Trondheim<\/a> to help you find the city’s gems. On these walking tours, I\u2018ll introduce you to the venerable city that\u2018s attracted both Vikings and kings. I\u2018ll reveal some of its over 1,000 year history including its origins as a trading post and its brief stint as a Swedish territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first tour is starting in the Bratt\u00f8ra area, you\u2018ll walk along the quay towards the railway and Nidelva River. Along the way, I\u2018ll point out some of the city\u2018s landmarks including Rockheim, Norway\u2019s national museum for popular music, and Munkholmen, the island used for public executions during the Viking age. You\u2018ll stroll down Fjordgata and Munkegata Street before heading towards Torvet (the town square) and the historical Bakklandet suburb<\/a>. Along the way to Kristiansten Fortress where our tour ends, I\u2018ll show you Trondheim Torg shopping mall, R\u00e5dhuset i Trondheim (the city hall), and the world\u2019s northernmost cathedral, Nidaros Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On this one-hour walk around Trondheim, you\u2019ll discover the history of a city that\u2019s experienced both Vikings and wars against Sweden, and which stores the Norwegian royal regalia today. Along the way, I\u2018ll point out several places where you can sit down, people-watch, or enjoy a bite to eat. Don\u2018t be surprised if a resident comes over to have a chat, people in Trondheim are like that. Remember to bring a large smile and, of course, a camera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second tour is a mid-town tour, starting at the Main square by the Olav Trygvasson statue. It takes you pass Nidelva river, The Archbishops Palace<\/a>, Stiftsg\u00e5rden and The Old Town Bridge – and, it ends at the Nidarosdomen Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tour let follow in the footsteps of kings and Vikings, through the inner centre of Trondheim. The city is rich in history, culture and infused with a quaint small town atmosphere. We’ll visit beautiful parks, lovely riverbanks and gorgeous architecture, before we enter the most well-known parts of Trondheim.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
